Description: Zooanthids are one of the most colorful, popular and easiest corals to care for. Their polyps extend around the clock, but will close when physically disturbed or stressed. They grow across most surfaces, (i.e. rock, glass, other corals, and even gravel) like a mat. And, they require minimal attention to thrive.

Zoozanthellae provide the majority of their food via moderate to strong lighting. But, occasional feeding of smaller plankton and particulate matter is beneficial. In larger/mature aquariums, floating particulate matter, algae and organic materials can often be enough to supplement their energy obtained from lighting. If lighting is too bright, they may not close their polyps around their foods.

They are also known to do something called "surface cleansing," where they will close up for a week or so while their surface tissue and mucus is discarded, an action to clear off debris, detritus, or other matter building up on its surface.

They prefer medium/moderate water flow to prevent detritus buildup on its surface and reduce its need to surface cleans. 

Approx. Size: 3-5+ Polyps Per Frag. Each polyp is about the diameter of Sharpie pen, and as tall as a 2-3 nickles stacked up on each other.

Care and Recommendations:  

• Lighting: Low (50 PAR) to High (150+ PAR) Lighting. Medium (100 PAR) Recommended.
• Flow: Medium Consistent Flow, with Periodic Strong Flow
• Care: Easy. Minimal Care Required. Occasional high flow basting is beneficial by removing detritus buildup which inhibits growth.
• Feeding: Most food obtained via Zoozanthellae. However, they benefit from periodic feedings of Marine Snow, Phytoplankton, and Zooplankton between 20µ-1mm in size.
